Marseille is the second-biggest city in France, after the capital, Paris. It is located in the South-East region of France, along the Mediterranean Sea. It is the oldest city in France, as it was founded in 600 BC by Greek merchants. It has since been an important commercial and transit port. The most famous monuments in Marseille are its symbol, the Notre-Dame de la Garde basilica, the MUCEM (a museum with a modern architecture), and the cathedral La Major. Marseille welcome 58 000 students every year, and more than 72 000 if the whole agglomeration is considered. The University of Aix-Marseille is one of the biggest in France.
